May is flower month in our garden and in public gardens around the area. I did this watercolor and Listo Marking pencil sketch in our backyard a few days ago and this morning I joined the Salem Sketchers at Egan Garden north of town. It’s a beautiful garden with large greenhouses full of wonderful potted and hanging plants. I did two sketches – one with brush pens and one with ballpoint pen.
I worked standing up with the paper pad clipped to a small tripod. I used Arteza Real brush pens one color at a time on green colored card stock. After I finished, I found I still had some time left until we all gathered to share our sketches. So, I changed to white paper and walked around sketching red flowers using red, green, and black ballpoint pens until time ran out.

I remember Egon Gardens, but don’t remember going into the greenhouses. Saw lots of cut flowers today for sale for Mother’s Day, but nothing like the Spring flowers of .oregon. *sigh*
