Today’s second Paint the Town event was held at Gaiety Hollow which is a private house and garden on Mission Street across from Bush Pasture Park in Salem, Oregon. I did two watercolor sketches. I did this first one on a smaller piece of paper to warm up. I painted it directly with no underdrawing.
Strathmore 400 Series Watercolor paper 5.5×8.5 inches (14×21.6 cm), 1 inch flat brush, and Daniel Smith watercolors.

I did this second one on a larger piece of paper and threw everything I had in my bag at it.
Strathmore 400 Series Watercolor paper 9×12 inches (22.9×30.5 cm), blue watercolor pencil for layout, 1 inch flat brush, and Daniel Smith watercolors, Faber-Castell Gel Sticks, Arteza Real Brush pens, and Dr. Ph. Martin’s Pen White ink in a Molotow 2mm empty pump marker.
Some drawings just don’t work out. You can’t rescue a bad drawing by adding things on top of it. It just becomes an even bigger mess.
