Yesterday was the only day I had this week for art. In the morning I joined the Salem Sketchers at Mt. Angel Abbey, and before dinner I did a small monotype.
Mt. Angel Abbey has a small museum hidden away at the back of one of the buildings. Among its collections is a world class display of taxidermy. It was hard to choose from so many, but from my one vantage point I did these guys – polar bear, caribou, musk ox, and big horned sheep.
Here’s the sketch I did.
Strathmore 400 Series Mixed Media paper 9×12 inches (22.9×30.5 cm), Platinum Plaisir fountain pen with Platinum Carbon Black ink, Kuretake #13 brush pen with Platinum Carbon Black ink, and Daniel Smith watercolors.
I did this small monotype to test a new small brayer and a new technique. I printed this from a Gelli plate to a panel instead of to paper.
Sintra PVC 1/8 (3mm) thick light gray panel, Golden Open acrylic applied with a 1.5 inch brayer and a small round brush. Image is 7.75×4 inches (19.6×10 cm).
